London’s Most Desirable Neighbourhoods Have Been Revealed

  • by

London’s most desirable suburb has been revealed.

It’s a pretty big accolade given the entire city is one of the world’s best.

The revelation was made thanks to Time Out which asked the question, where would you like to move in your city, as part of a recent survey.

And the jury is out. Most Londoners want to move to Hampstead, in London’s leafy north.

This probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise to Londoners, as the area is home to celebrities and A-listers as well as some of the most expensive – and beautiful – architecture.

Many people of note call Hampstead home, including Liam Gallagher, Helena Bonham Carter, Stephen Fry and Harry Styles.

Past Hampstead residents include Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova, Elizabeth Taylor, H. G. Wells and Sigmund Freud.

Many residences have been designed by leading mid-century architects, and there’s even a book – Hampstead and Highgate in 50 Buildings which details some of the best architecture in the area across eras.

Hampstead Heath is also one of London’s most popular green spaces. The Parliament Hill viewpoint boasts a cracking vista of the city, and the heath’s three ponds are busy with locals and visitors to the area all year round.

Even a stroll around the area’s streets and lanes are rewarding, as there are plenty of independent shops and boutiques and cafes to stumble upon.

Food and drink wise, there are plenty of lovely and inviting pubs in Hampstead which are ideal for a Sunday roast following a stroll through the heath or around the neighbourhood, and Ottolenghi will open a new restaurant in the area in December.

Affluent west London neighbourhood Chelsea was next on the list, followed by Islington in the north.

Richmond was the fourth most desirable area, and east London creative hipster pocket Hackney was in fifth place.

Notting Hill was number sixth on the list, followed by Greenwich in seventh place, Kensington in eighth and Soho in ninth spot. Highgate was the 10th most desirable neighbourhood.
